Not-For-Profit Business Representation

IMG_1374

WE SUPPORT GOOD BUSINESSES DOING GOOD.

A significant portion of our practice–both in size and in consideration–is our representation of not-for-profit businesses.  [We try not to use the term “non-profit” because it’s a misnomer: you must make a profit, regardless of the type of business you have; it’s what you do with that profit that matters.]

More than fifty percent of not-for-profit businesses fail. This isn’t because their mission isn’t worthy; it’s because they are often set up to fail.  A not-for-profit business must be a good business.  Where a for-profit business succeeds when it gives return or profit to its shareholders, a not-for-profit business succeeds when it uses its donations wisely and well, creating a larger pool of funds and greater energy for its mission.

We work with not-for-profit businesses in all stages:

  • startup [formation and strategy, creation of a governance structure, training the board of directors, designing the development and fundraising plan]
  • mission deployment [recruiting and training a board of directors, executive employee searches and training, development event design and implementation, merger and acquisition representation]
  • mission redevelopment [amending purpose, redeveloping structure, structuring for larger development or endowment decisions, providing assistance with dissolution decisions]
